How we seal the pipe again: process, technology, services

We have various methods available for sewer rehabilitation. We always suggest the method that makes the most sense for your specific case - in terms of cost, safety and service life.

The most common reasons for sewer renovation

    • Renovation request from the municipality for conversion

    • Damage to existing sewers during new builds or renovations

    • Subsequent remediation in the event of a failed leak test

    • After water damage due to leaking sewage pipes or burst pipes

    • Refurbishment if a new installation is not possible due to accessibility

Trenchless sewer rehabilitation with the liner method: Inliner, short liner / partliner, spray liner

The liner processes include inliners, short liners / part liners, spray liners and others. These methods are suitable for pipes with a diameter of 50 mm to 400 mm. Other methods are used for smaller pipe diameters and pipes that have already collapsed.

Good reasons for sewer rehabilitation with the liner method

    • Cost-saving renovation: 3 to 4 times cheaper than conventional excavation methods
    • Minimum renovation time: 3 to 5 times faster than excavation methods
    • Long service life: Extension of the service life by 50 to 70 years
    • Ensuring the value retention and functionality of the wastewater pipes
    • Guaranteed tightness in accordance with applicable laws
    • No pointing of walls and floors, no disruption from construction activities

The inliner renovation process - step by step

To give you an idea of how the process works, here are the most important steps:

    Preparation & cleaning

First, the pipe is flushed with high pressure. Any deposits, roots or constrictions are removed by milling so that the original pipe cross-section is free.

    Damage analysis by camera

We use a camera to check the pipe and record the exact damage pattern.

    Inserting the liner

A resin-impregnated hose is pulled or blown into the pipe. This is the actual inliner rehabilitation.

    Curing the liner

The liner is pressed against the pipe wall with compressed air or water and hardens there.

    Final inspection

A new camera inspection ensures that the pipe is tight and fully functional.

    The inliner renovation

For longer cracks or more extensive damage, we use the tried and tested inliner method. A polyester hose impregnated with special resin is inserted into the pipe and cured. As access is via inspection chambers, inliner renovation does not require any excavation or complex construction work - saving time and money.

High-pressure cleaning is carried out as preparation. Depending on the damage, it may be necessary to drill out or mill the pipes to restore the original pipe cross-section.

The most common reasons for an inliner renovation are damage to the entire pipe, pipes made of materials that are no longer permitted, such as vitrified clay pipes, as well as ingrowth through the sockets of the wastewater pipe and penetrating groundwater.

    Sewer renovation different options

The short liner method / partliner method is suitable for

    • Selective repairs in the sewer system
    • Leaky sockets / pipe connections
    • Rooting
    • Damage / holes in the pipe

Short liner refurbishment / Partliner refurbishment

An inliner does not always have to be installed in the entire pipe. If only individual sections are damaged, partial rehabilitation is usually sufficient. Short liner rehabilitation, also known as partliner rehabilitation, is the ideal method for this. It is used to rehabilitate individual cracks, isolated damaged areas or short rehabilitation sections. The partial liner is transported to the damaged area in the sewer using a packer system under TV control, positioned precisely and pressed into place under pressure. The liner then hardens to form a 2.5 to 4 mm thick inner formwork that reliably seals the damaged area.

Sprayliner refurbishment / spray coating process

From DN 50 to DN 150, we rehabilitate wastewater pipes in buildings using the spray coating process - quickly, easily and effectively. Our spray liner process is one of the most cost-effective rehabilitation methods for almost all pipe materials and damage patterns. First of all, the damage to downpipes, supply pipes and connection nozzles is recorded and localized using camera inspection. A new pipe is created by spraying a long-lasting epoxy resin onto the existing inner pipe wall in layers. The resin layer bonds with the old pipe to form a solid unit that can extend the service life of the pipe by decades. No breaking up of walls, ceilings and floors, no dust and dirt pollution, no noise.

Typical areas of application for Sprayliner refurbishment:

    Internal waste water pipes

All wastewater pipes above the floor slab from DN 40 to DN 150, also with 90° bends

    Drop wires with lateral connections

Refurbishment is usually carried out via an installation on the roof

    Lateral connections:

Renovation takes place via a dismantled WC, washbasin etc.

    Showers and bathtubs

Structural measures may be necessary depending on the drain type

    Rainwater pipes

Reliably seal drainage pipes in retention basins, shafts or cisterns.

    Pool systems & pool lines

Trenchless renovation of leaking pool pipes - without tearing up the garden or patio.

    Sewer rehabilitation with robots

Sewer rehabilitation with robotic milling is another trenchless method for repairing and rehabilitating sewer pipes. Remote-controlled robots carry out the milling work inside the sewer pipe. This technology is mainly used to remove obstructions or prepare damaged areas for subsequent rehabilitation.

Typical robot milling work in the sewer system:

    • Removal of concrete in the sewer pipe
    • Removal of heavy limescale deposits in the sewer pipe
    • Removal of obstacles in the pipe, such as reinforcing bars, drill anchors, steel pipe
    • Shortening connections that protrude into the pipe
    • Re-milling the inlets and lateral connections after renovation of the main line

    Manhole renovation and socket renovation

We also rehabilitate old manholes and defective sleeves using trenchless methods. During manhole renovation, the vertical access shafts or manholes are repaired. In socket renovation, leaking joints (sockets) between two sewer pipes are repaired at specific points. This is particularly important as leaking pipe sockets can allow sewage to penetrate the ground or groundwater to enter the pipe.

The methods we use for rehabilitation depend on the details of the damage. We can often work with the short liner method to restore an intact wastewater infrastructure - without having to dig up the roads.

The most important methods for muffle restoration

    • Short liner method: A resin-impregnated tube is positioned at the damaged area, inflated and hardens there
    • Injection method: Special resins are pressed into the leaking sleeve under pressure and harden there
    • Robotics: Milling and filling robots are used for local repairs

Partial repair using a stainless steel sleeve

The stainless steel sleeve is installed using a specially developed packer, which is precisely positioned at the damaged area using a sewer camera. In the case of longer damaged areas, several sleeves can be lined up seamlessly to ensure complete rehabilitation. The Quick-Lock system is suitable for all pipe materials and is highly efficient and reliable for a wide range of damage patterns. Sewer pipes with diameters from 100 mm to 700 mm can be effectively rehabilitated.

FAQ - Answers to the most frequently asked questions

    When is sewer renovation necessary?

Sewer renovation is necessary if the sewer pipe no longer complies with legal standards. This means that the sewer system is leaking and wastewater is leaking into the ground.

The most common reasons for sewer renovation:

    • Renovation request from the municipality for conversion
    • Damage to existing sewers during new builds or renovations
    • Subsequent remediation in the event of a failed leak test
    • After water damage due to leaking sewage pipes or burst pipes
    • Refurbishment if a new installation is not possible due to accessibility, for example with load-bearing walls or pillars / supports
Does the ground have to be dug up for sewer renovation?

That depends on the sewer damage. Our sewer professionals examine the damage individually and draw up a renovation concept. We suggest the procedure that is as minimally invasive as possible. If structural openings are necessary, these will be discussed.

What does a sewer renovation cost?

This depends on many factors. Such as the condition of the sewer system, length, diameter, connections, etc. Sewer rehabilitation using the liner method (inliner, short liner, spray liner) is always cheaper and quicker than the conventional construction method, in which the existing pipes are dug up and new ones laid.

    The most important price-determining criteria:

    • Length of the pipe to be rehabilitated and number of sewer sections that need to be rehabilitated
    • Diameter / dimension of the pipe
    • Necessary preparatory work: Milling out deposits or limescale in the pipe may be necessary in order to be able to install the liner
    • Number of inlets and lateral connections of the pipe that need to be reopened / milled open
    • Number of journeys required
How long does a sewer renovation take?

This depends on the size of the renovation project. Around 70% of our orders take between 1 and 3 working days.

How long does a pipe rehabilitated using the inliner method last?

Depending on how heavily it is used and what drains through the sewer system, the service life is longer or shorter. On average, the inliner lasts 50 to 70 years. We provide guarantees in accordance with SIA190.

If it gurgles, smells or overflows: call the sewer heroes!

Whether it's an emergency in the evening or maintenance for the portfolio: We solve this efficiently and provide you with the documentation at the same time. So you can get the issue off your plate.
